Joy the Baker!

If you are thinking of baking holiday treats for visitors, neighbors, co-workers, friends….Think Joy the Baker!  She was in Boston today at Eat Boutique’s holiday market and I had the pleasure of meeting her and having her sign my copy of her cookbook.  Pick one up – I highly recommend it!  Thanks Joy! Ava’s chocolate-dipped strawberries

If your Hershey® bar melts in the hot August sunshine, have no fear!  Ava (6) showed me how to be creative.

1. Don’t be upset!  Just take the melted Hershey® bar:

2.  Squirt it on a plate and add fresh, chopped strawberries:

3. Swirl!:

4. Enjoy!!:

and remember…It’s all how you look at it!

I am the mother of a picky eater.  I am that Mom that hovers over her child’s every meal.  I have to.  “Three more bites.”  That’s me.  I check and double-check his hydration status with diligence.  I line up vitamins every day.   He takes Animal Parade Multivitamin and Mineral supplement, Animal Parade Kid Greenz, Rhino Gummy Calci-Bears, and  Flouride.  Even reassurance from doctors just doesn’t seem to be enough when you know the only food your child will eat has very little nutritional value.  I won’t bore you with the details of my daily dilemmas with my picky eater.  Surely you either have one or know someone who has one.  It’s work.  Plain and simple.

Today I write with good and hopeful news.

The next time you are in the mall, or walking along and come across a Teavana store – I implore you! – don’t just curiously peek inside.  I admit that if you are not a “tea” person – as we tend to label ourselves either “coffee” or “tea” people – the store may seem intimidating.  I am here to encourage you…”Go in!”  Taste a cup of the teas that are out for your sampling.  Tell the employees what flavors you like and let them show you some of the interesting teas they sell.  I have found them extremely helpful in explaining the differences among the types of tea, and they can help you find one that both tastes great and is good for you.  You may have guessed what I am getting at.  My little 9-year-old picky eater likes Teavana’s tea!  An actual, good for you, easy to make product!  The iced tea currently in a big pitcher in my refrigerator is called Blueberry Bliss.  It comes packed with health benefits, and it is caffeine free, fruity, and sweet without adding sugar.  I want to be sure it tastes like it does in the store, so I sweeten it with the German Rock Sugar sold at Teavana.  (It’s like eating rock candy if you can grab a handful for yourself)  I add a few teaspoons to the bottom of the teapot, then just pour the hot water over the tea leaves.  Steep for 5 minutes, pour into a pitcher, and add ice…Done.  It tastes great!  and…
